Sydney mom Steph Pase has opened up about her weight loss journey after gaining 20kg in just a year.
The mother-of-two took to Instagram to share how her poor mental health contributed to her weight gain.
She said that just 10 years ago she suffered from fatigue, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and insomnia.
Pase, now 31, ate poorly and drank excessively to numb her anxiety.
“I got to the point one day where someone showed me a picture of me and I didn’t even recognize the girl in the picture,” she said.
“I gained 20 kg in a year, and it wasn’t the weight that was the problem; it was how I felt, chronic headaches, fatigue, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, insomnia and my sleep apnea was the worst it has ever been.
Finally, one day, she made the decision to change.
“I was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired,” she said.
She decided to join the gym and focus on healthy eating.
“I tunneled my vision – yes, I couldn’t wait to get into a gym but knew I was worth it. I was focusing on a lifestyle change and not on diet. fashion, shakes or cabbage soup, I was determined to improve myself and improve my health forever.
“Once I started to focus on eating the right foods that weren’t from a drive-thru or a box, and only moved my body three times a week, the weight went downhill. diminished, but most of all, the real Steph has returned. “
She revealed that her health journey had not been smooth and said she focused too much on losing weight and started to restrict herself.
“I was even more depressed than when I was heavier,” she wrote.
She said she then decided to focus on balance and encouraged her followers to do the same.
